HFR Planning Model
Plumas County Fire Safe Council develops strategic, large-scale fuels reduction projects to protect communities from wildfire, prioritizing large contiguous treatment areas that maximize cost-effectiveness per acre.
Project areas are selected based on grant parameters, available funding, and on-the-ground feasibility. PCFSC contacts eligible landowners directly; there is no annual application process. Some projects require a landowner cost-share starting at $250/acre.
Treatments may include commercial thinning, mastication, hand thinning, sawlog and biomass removal, and prescribed fire. HFR focuses on removing smaller-diameter trees and ladder fuels while retaining larger, healthy trees, reducing wildfire intensity, improving firefighter safety, and promoting long-term forest health.
